I am an amature artist based in Hamilton South Lanarkshire and paint mostly in oils on a mixture of canvas and board.

After years of inactivity I started to paint again in 2012 and this blog is set up to record my work.

I currently use water-based oils due to their low odour and are easy to clean up. I currently use Winsor and Newton Artisan as well as Jacksons Aqua oil. In terms of mediums I use fast drying medium and Impasto medium and while water is good for thinning these paints I use W&N thinner as it evaporates a bit more slowly keeping the paint flowing for longer.

I make my own boards to paint on which are 6mm mdf that I can cut down to size. They are primed and covered in 2-3 coats of gesso I then apply an acrylic coloured base on top of which I paint on.

I also use pre-stretched canvas which I add another layer or two of Gesso to the already primed surface.
